Welcome to My First Convention.
This website is the continuation of the 'Surviving Your First Convention' panel, as
presented at Anime St. Louis. Our
purpose is to help folks who are new to the convention scene with advice on how to prepare, what to look for, look out for
and how to try to get the most out of a convention without burning out halfway through.
Updates, Updates, Updates!
6/9/2015 - Wow! In just under four years, we have had over 30,000 hits!
This means a lot to us. It tells us that we really are helping folks. Which is the whole focus of our mission.
The Convention Directory is back up to date!
Man In Kilt has been busy retooling our entire system, to make it easier to handle lots of data. Our database is now over 200
conventions, worldwide, AND (cue dramatic music) You can now submit your own conventions!
Yup, we've added a new form, so that you can tell us about any convention that we have missed. Let us know about it, and we can add
it in, in short order.
05/01/2013 - After an extended hiatus, we are back in Con Mode! We have updated the convention listings. We now have 171 conventions,
in 17 different coutries, and the 2013/2014 dates are up.
We have also added new Question Submission Forms!
Have something you want to ask, or new content you think we've missed? Hit us up under either the Contact Us page, or the
Question & Answer page, and submit your question! PARENTS - We have a separate form under the Parents' Corner for
your questions. We will use them to expand the Parents' Q&A section.
11/5/2012 - Our own Jennie Breeden (author of The Devil's Panties) will be in Kansas City this weekend for Contraception.
In fact, she is the conventions co-Guest of Honor with Jason Carter (Babylon 5's Marcus Cole). If everyone asks nicely,
he might singe I Am The Very Model of A Modern Major-General. :D
10/24/2012 - So, some folks have noticed that random words will will be highlighted on our pages, and the link to all kinds
of odd things. Man In Kilt has reviewed all of our code, and has assured us that the links are not part of our site.
He is still looking into the cause of this behavior.
10/23/2012 - Want to help us? Send us material. Post questions for discussion on our Facebook page. Want to
submit pictures from conventions, email them into us (full credit will be given in the photo listing).
10/18/2012 - Our convention directory has been greatly expanded. Not only have we added conventions, we also list
the next one (mostly 2013 at this point), and what city the convention is in. The list is also now sorted both
alphabetically and by date.
NOTE: THE LIST NOW INCLUDES INTERNATIONAL EVENTS!
WE"RE ON FACEBOOK & TWITTER!
10/14/2012 - Our webmaster slammed a 2 liter of Mountain Dew on Friday night and set up both Facebook and Twitter pages
for us.
Twitter will primarily be event updates and other fun things. However, we are going to start using our Facebook page as a
mini discussion forum. Material from there may find its way into the website. If we use material that you've submitted,
don't worry, we'll credit you for asking the question, providing an answer or giving some really good insite.
10/14/2012 - We met a lot of great people at Archon 36. Thanks to everyone for another great con. Got some good
material for the site.
More updates are going up. All pages have at least a small amount of material to help get the gears going in everyones'
minds. We're currently paying particular attention to the About conventions section. It is, arguably, the most
important section of the site. Sadly, it has also been the hardest to develop and the last to go up.
Check back for updates on our pages and new content markers!
01/05/2012 - We have recently had the honor of being invited to appear on DragonTalk Radio: Your Convention Connection.
We got close out the 2011 program year *and* be episode #100! You can find our broadcast, along with all things DragonTalk
at www.dragontalkradio.com.
